Friends visiting you from the suburbs or elsewhere will want Chicago-style pizza. They know nothing and and you should order Quad Cities-style pizza from Roots instead. Deep dish pizza is for special occasions and tavern-style pizza warrants more beer than your or your friends need. This pizza is unique enough to make you order it with some frequency and comes at a price/wait time that won't irk you. It's great.

We love this place!! Always get a perfect salad (build a salad) and of course the Mozzi sticks are the absolute besssssst!!!! Came for my sister's birthday and Bri was amazing!! Super attentive, and so kind. We accidentally stood until close she didn't make us feel rushed at all. We enjoyed ourselves so much. We didn't get the bartenders name but enjoyed the drinks as well!! The pizza here is also good! Will come back!

Had the famous cheese sticks. Delicious and ooey perfection. Tried the Detroit pizza appetizer. It was like a sour ficocia. Not appetizing at all. The toppings of ricotta and tiny tomatoes are meh at best. Atmosphere really nice. Pretty quite on a Sunday night. And the music wasn't blaring which was nice.

Great outdoor seating and service. Drink options were good, the dry cider I had was 10/10 perfect. The quad city style pizza was good, but not to my personal taste. Cheese wasn’t especially flavorful, but the sausage was good. The 12” pie size is good enough for 2, maybe even 2.5 people. Price was fair for the portion too. Recommended.

My husband and I had lunch at Roots in West Town, Chicago, during the CHIditarod, a fun event for a good cause—Chicago’s epic urban shopping cart race and charity food drive. We ordered the Korean fried chicken pizza and the Not a Carrot in the World salad. The pizza was delicious, flavorful but not too spicy, and the fresh salad paired nicely with the heavier pizza dish. The salad had delicious mango and avocado and a refreshing carrot tahini dressing. The server was friendly too. During our visit, we saw the CHIditarod contestants’ decked out shopping carts which was a delightful experience, and the restaurant/bar was full of life with a great DJ!

The Michelin guide awards three stars to a restaurant “that's worth a special journey” - the mozzarella sticks at Roots are worth a whole pilgrimage. You could start a religion based on these things. (Photo: rootspizza on Instagram)
